"In her early life, Katherine was a young and beautiful girl who was punished by her family for having a child out of wedlock. Initially named Katerina, she had loved her daughter very much and was heartbroken as her she was taken from her and she never even got to held her. After she was banished from Bulgaria, she relocated to England and seemed quite capable of making independent and intelligent choices. Katerina was characterized as a caring and polite person. She was quick to adapt to her relocation and enjoyed socializing and playing games with others. Katerina was also known to fall quick for men and yearned to be in the affections of others, even declaring to Elijah that life was not worth living if they did not believe in love. Despite her banishment from Bulgaria and estrangement with her relatives, Katerina maintained affection for them and was particularly close to her mother.
Despite her innocence and naivety, Katerina had a sense of self-preservation and immediately sought to protect herself against Klaus"
As a human Katherine initially had those skills to survive. They were only heightened when she took her own life and became a vampire. She is described as a selfish, ruthless, manipulative, b*tch who puts herself first and cares for no one else. This is only something describes Katherine as a shell. She is a girl who will put herself first, but only because her will to survive and her fear of death pushes her far. She is a smart girl, who knows how to figure out a way to turn any situation to her favor. Even when backed into a corner, you can bet that Katherine will go out kicking and fight her way past whatever seems impossible.
As for uncaring, well she would vote against that. Though Katherine has only ever truly loved one man, Stefan Salvatore, she has cared for quite a few in her lifetime. Her family, namely her mother. After her parents were slaughtered, Katherine felt more than just pain, she felt alone and scared and part of her never got over that pain. The daughter she had to give up when she was a young girl, this was something that Katherine was never able to get passed. She even admits to having gone back in search of her daughter after being turned into a vampire. Something she would never do if she didn't care, considering that put her own life in jeopardy. Katherine also had cared for Elijah. Klaus' half brother.

"Katerina Petrova (Cyrillic: Катерина Петрова) was born into a wealthy Bulgarian family on June 5th 1473. In 1490, when she was about 16 or 17 years of age, Katerina became pregnant by an unknown man, and her family disowned her for the shameful birth of an illegitimate daughter. She carried the child to term, but seconds after her daughter's birth, Katerina's father took the child away, claiming it would be better for both of them to never see one another. Katerina was devastated by this and was banished to England, where she quickly adjusted by becoming English. In 1492, she met Trevor, who introduced her to Lord Elijah, who in turn introduced her to his younger brother, Lord Niklaus. Katerina was attracted to Klaus, until she found out what he was, and that he was planning on using her as a sacrifice to break the The Hybrid Curse placed on him. She escaped with the help of Trevor, who had fallen in love with her. He led her pursuers astray and told her to go east, to a cottage in the woods where she would be safe. When she arrived at a cottage, Katerina met a vampire named Rose.
When Rose found out that Katerina had escaped from Klaus with the moonstone, she locked her in a room and told her that she would take her to Klaus as soon as the opportunity arose. Katerina tried to commit suicide by stabbing herself with a knife, saying she would rather die than go back to Klaus, but Rose force-fed her some of her blood to heal her. When Rose turned her back to confront Trevor, Katerina hung herself with a length of rope. Later, when Katerina woke up in transition, Trevor asked why she did it and claimed he would have helped her live. Katerina responds by saying that he would have been able to help her run and that running was never going to be enough. Rose then explains to Trevor that Katerina used him to escape and, knowing Klaus would find out their role in the escape, Rose attempted to kill Katerina with a stake. Katerina used the owner of the cabin as a shield, which resulted in her death. Katerina then gave in to her instincts and drained the little old lady, completing her transition into a vampire. She then threw the body towards Rose and Trevor and fled into the night. Katerina returned to Bulgaria in the latter months of 1492 to find her entire family brutally slaughtered by Klaus. She knew he had done it as revenge for her escape and subsequent transition. She was last seen weeping over her mother's dead body.
372 years had passed when in 1864 Katerina arrived in Mystic Falls, Virginia, by which time she had taken the name Katherine Pierce, presumably to avoid detection by Klaus. At some point she had become friends with Pearl and her daughter, Anna, and she saved the life of the witch Emily Bennett, putting Emily in her debt. Emily forged her a special piece of jewelry with the stone Lapis Lazuli which allowed her to walk in the sun without being burned. She was taken in by one of the town's founders, Giuseppe Salvatore, having spun a story about being orphaned by a fire that killed her family. Katherine met and fell in love with his son Stefan Salvatore, though she quickly began a physical relationship with Stefan's older brother, Damon, as well. Katherine created quite a few vampires while living in Mystic Falls, which inevitably alerted the Founding Families to their existence. Pearl warned Katherine that the town knew about the vampires after discovering an elixir containing vervain, which Honoria Fell had asked to be sold at the apothecary. Pearl tried to convince her to leave, but Katherine refused, claiming she had a plan in motion. Her plan, it turned out, was to turn Stefan and Damon into vampires, having seduced them both during her stay at the Salvatore household.
Realizing how quickly the Founder's Council would take action against the vampires, Katherine struck a deal with George Lockwood: she would give him the moonstone if he would help her fake her death. Eventually, Stefan unwittingly suggested to his father that he knew a vampire, and Giuseppe guessed Katherine's true identity. Giuseppe spiked Stefan's drink with vervain and, later that same night, Katherine bit him. She was incapacitated by the vervain in his bloodstream, and, hearing the commotion, Giuseppe burst in to take her away. Damon later went to rescue her, and Stefan, upset that he had hurt his brother and jeopardized Katherine's life, helped him in the effort. They were both killed trying to save her, shot by their own father, Giuseppe, who was ashamed his sons had succumbed to the wiles of a demon.
Katherine and the other vampires were taken to Fell's Church to be destroyed, but George helped Katherine escape. She gave George the moonstone, but instead of leaving right away, she turned to see Damon and Stefan's bodies lying in the road. She ran to Stefan, kissed him, and promised they would be together again someday. After transitioning into a vampire, Damon was told by Emily that Katherine was trapped in the tomb beneath the church, and as a result, the older Salvatore never stopped loving Katherine as he awaited the day he would be able to rescue her. In reality, Katherine was still lying low to evade Klaus, and she kept a close eye on the younger Salvatore brother, pointing out that she had seen him in the front row of a concert in the 1980s to prove that she'd always been watching over him.
In the 1920s, Katherine was in Chicago at the same time as Stefan, but she only observed him from afar. After a police raid cleared out the speakeasy, Katherine spotted Rebekah's necklace on the ground. She moved to pick it up, but ran away before Stefan could see or notice her. She watched him for a few moments before slipping into the shadows.
During the 1970s, Katherine employed the talents of the vampire Will, who owned the music club and bar, Billy's, and ran an identity theft ring that secured new identities for vampires. Damon, who was friends with Will and helped him by killing people to steal their ID cards, unwittingly helped Katherine in her mission to remain undetected.
When Katherine learned of the escape of the Tomb vampires, she gave her descendant and friend, Isobel, a Lapis Lazuli medallion, enabling the young vampire to walk in the sun. Katherine needed the tomb vampires dead because she didn't want Klaus to find out she was still alive, so she had Isobel retrieve Johnathan Gilbert's invention and give it to John Gilbert to use against the vampires in Mystic Falls. This resulted in the deaths of the remaining tomb vampires.
In Founder's Day after the chaos has settled, Katherine, having stolen some of Elena Gilbert's clothes, goes to the Gilbert house, where she poses as Elena in the presence of Damon. The two kiss, only to be interrupted by Elena's aunt, Jenna Sommers. Unaware of the presence of vampires or the existence of Katherine, Jenna invites her into the house. Katherine startles John Gilbert in the kitchen, still pretending to be Elena. She notices the magic ring he is wearing and, using a butcher's knife, viciously chops his fingers off, then stabs him. Elena arrives and comes to John's aid while Katherine hovers behind her."

Katherine has been in and out of Mystic falls, after being actually entombed, escaping, setting everything up for Klaus to possibly consider them square, killing countless members of Elena's family, hurting her friends, turning them into vampires...we are now at the present. Elena Gilbert shoving the cure down Katherine's mouth, forcing her to take it. Now she is human, and she hasn't been human in over 500 years.

Avery made a face at him, maybe a bit jealous at his immunity actually. She wasn't one to get sick normally, but walking around barefoot in dungeons and not caring about catching a cold, well that kinda sounded nice. "Hmm well friends do check up on each other. And I suppose that's what we are now. I may get offended if I don't get routine check ups." She said with a smile. She didn't consider anything that was coming out of her mouth flirting, even though others might. But, she had a feeling that neither would Evrain. Outside people may have other thoughts, and suddenly Avery thought about Romeo. She had no idea why he popped in her head, or why it would matter what he thought about statements she said to Ev. But, none the less her friend had popped into her head. She kind of blushed for a moment, but quickly it faded almost as fast as the warmth spread in her cheeks. Avery laughed and nodded, "As embarrassing as it is to admit. It happened, but only once. One of the Jimenez siblings either Josh or Shyrise, I can't even remember had to help me. I was so embarrassed I just ran inside after." Avery covered her face of the small embarrassment she was feeling, it was a moment in life she pretended never happened. "In my defense I was like eleven..and flustered." She crossed her arms as if that excuse was good enough. Luckily for her, she had never gotten stuck outside again. Of course now that she was speaking about it, it would probably happen. At this age that would be worse than embarrassing, it would be horrific. Avery cocked her head, looking at him almost confused. People enjoyed going into other houses at night? "O-oh.." She mumbled finally realizing what that meant. "I s-suppose when there is a will, there is a way." She was tempted to quote one of her favorite movies and say something along the lines of, 'the force is strong in this one.' But, she decided against it. If Ev didn't know West Side Story would he know Star Wars? Eh she shrugged and decided to let her inner nerd flow, "I guess it's one of those kind of things where if you want to succeed in sneaking in, you will. You know, 'do or do not, there is no try.' " She said with a small shrug. She sort of felt like a loser, but at the same time if you couldn't be yourself around your friends, well then who could you?I chose a long one to show off >.> lol
She smiled and let out a small laugh as she shook her head. Avery had only said it because she felt the need to joke a bit. She wasn't really used to boys touching her face. "I was only kidding. It seems very apparent you were taught some fancy schmancy manners. One's I probably never even learned." She didn't mean it to sound rude, or come off as an insult, though she was sure that it sort of sounded that way. But, her family was kind of middle class. They didn't learn about fork placement or things like that, Evrain kinda seemed like he came from a family that taught many things. At least just based on the way his father taught him self defense and things. She found herself looking back at his face, the light scars still very visible even in this dim lighting. "Did it hurt?" She randomly asked, but she couldn't help but feel curious about it. She had never been hurt enough to be scarred on such a sensitive area. She had gotten scabbed knees and hurt shins playing Quidditch, but nothing some bandaids or a quick spell couldn't fix. Nothing ever really scar worthy. Plus, she had to wonder about the emotional damage that was caused by having scars caused by a family member...a parent. Avery scrunched her eyebrows as she looked up at him. He seemed obviously concerned about something. "Do you not like my brother or something?" She hadn't made the connection that it was her last name that could have concerned him, since the topic was her older brother and normally Liam was responsible for a lot of questionable things. She had just assumed he broke something or made a pass at someone he shouldn't have. Maybe a relative or..or maybe someone Evrain liked or dated. Suddenly Avery felt very uncomfortable, she hadn't even assumed to ask about significant others. If he had one, she was sure that she wouldn't be comfortable with Avery occupying Ev's time down here. "Oh did he..you know try something with your girlfriend or something?" Avery asked and tried to keep it kind of cool. Avery laughed a bit, almost a stifled giggle at the thought of practicing dancing. "I don't sleep much at night. It doesn't really appear that you do either. You seem wide awake." She said with a shrug, wondering if she sounded too pretentious with all of her assumptions. There were times that she thought she had everything figured out, and assumed on the basis of feeling that she was 100% correct. Though it could possibly all be bullshit. "Dancing...I could go for a couple midnight sessions of that. Considering you know.I'm amazing at it." She said almost laughing out loud at herself.
Avery nodded at his question. She did, all the time. Lots of the students were scary to think about as adults, but others she wondered if they would outgrow some of their traits. "Sometimes, I wonder about one of my close friends Jaime, if he or his brother Sean will ever grow up." She said with a smile, "And then sometimes I wonder...if there's the next voldemort right here in our school." Avery said with a small frown. After all the dark lord was a boy before, just a simple boy who went to school and waked these very halls. It was more than just possible, especially with people out there who probably still believed in what he had believed in once. "I wonder sometimes if I'll cave in and do something like my father...just to make him happy or..I don't know." She said with a small shrug. She once wanted to be a professional quidditch player, but at the same time Avery wanted to make a difference, and be something that mattered. Xander was once a person like that, was once someone who joined the order for a cause and because it was the right thing to do. There was probably an amazing sense of self pride and worth in that. "What about you? What do you see yourself becoming?" She asked him curiously, it sounded like a typical question. One that if you asked other people they'd give you a simple answer about their hopes and dreams. But, AVery felt like Evrain would take it more to heart, like she did. She felt like..he would think it to be a loaded question, and possibly not be able to really answer it, like she couldn't. She raised an eyebrow at his mention of knowing for a fact. She was curious if he knew people personally who were sons and daughters of death eaters. "What about those afraid to stray from the norm. Scared to not live up to their parents? I feel for them...maybe if they had a friend like you who said things like that to them they would know they had a choice." Avery smiled at Evrain, there was something about the way her spoke, it sounded almost inspirational. Avery then scoffed at his smark remark, and smirked playfully hitting him. "Maybe I do...I have the only one worth reading." She said as she crossed her arms across her chest. "Of course I mean it...I love dissecting movies. And I like to watch people watch movies for the first time." She realized that sounded completely weird, creepy, and stalkerish. "I mean..their reactions..you know?" She asked hoping he understood.
Avery suddenly wondered, at the mention of his age, if he cared that she was so much younger than he was. Once people were out of school, three years normally didn't mean anything. Though in school..it was quite a big age difference. Though, she did pride herself a bit on being intellectually and more mature than her age group. Which sounded a bit pompous. She was glad that at times her thoughts stayed just that, thoughts, and weren't spoken. "Ah well, mah wee fourteen year old self can't do magics outside of here." She said with a hinge of jealously in her tone. "So basically, what you're saying is that you have no excuse about not coming over for movie nights. Since you can poof right over?" Avery asked, trying to spin their age difference in a positive way. Avery shook her head, "No I..I'm a half-blood. D-does that matter?" Part of her had actually contemplated lying for a split second, because she wasn't sure if Evrain came from a family who cared about blood status. Though, Avery thought that if he really did care about it enough that would have been the first question of their conversation. "My father came from a very pure blood family..we don't speak to them..soo.." Avery gulped a bit, sharing just a small tidbit of information about her father's parents. It was definitely a big part of the reason she had such strong feelings about blood not defining you. Her father chose to break away from his family, chose to be someone different. It was a big reason she would always respect him, no matter how much of a crazy drunk he became.
Avery listened and then slowly began to nod in agreement. He did have a point. She considered those in Ravenclaw to be more clever, while those in Slytherin to be more cunning. But both houses containing members who were aware on how to get what they wanted one way or another. She thought of Autumn, and considered she and her best friend quite similar. Autumn was a Slytherin, so..it did make some sense. "I'll give you that." She nodded as he continued to speak and then cocked her head, "Yet, somehow you don't really fit the mold at all." She said with a small smirk. "Makes one a little bit curious if more than just family influenced the sorting hat." She said, almost posing it as a question. Evrain seemed more a Ravenclaw than she did at certain points during this conversation. Sometimes Avery felt like bits and pieces of her father's Gryffindor self made themselves present within her personality. At the moment she was feeling very unlike an eagle.
Avery sort of just shrugged at his question. They weren't, but did you just come out and say that to a person who just became your friend? "They have good days and bad days...mostly bad." Avery was always fearful that her parents would split up and get a divorce. Part of her, was kind of surprised her mother actually stayed with her father for this long. Se knew they loved each other, but Xander was a difficult man to be with now. He was miserable, and ad all these theories about a Death Eater uprising. It was all getting a bit tired. "I think my mother is trying her best. But..um..what about your parents? Happily married with a white picket fence?" She spun the conversation back on him. Part of Avery really disliked being in the lime light, though when it was in a different scenario like a quidditch match she enjoyed it. Avery raised an eyebrow when Evrain said his mother was a bit younger than his father. She smirked and spoke without thinking, "I highly doubt it's anything compared to my friend Autumn's parents." She covered her mouth, she didn't really mean anything bad about that at all. Autumn's parents were ridiculously in love. "Mr. and Mrs. Crabbe just have..a bit of an age difference is all." She said with a small shrug.
Avery smiled and laughed a bit. She felt..kind of happy that she was able to claim to have been the first friend to hug Evrain. She wondered if that was a strange thought, but then dismissed it. It wasn't, she was allowed to enjoy being the first at something. Merlin only knew how many hugs Jaime, Sean, or even Romeo had gotten before she embraced her friends. It was nice having a male friend who didn't appear to be a social slut. "You're welcome good sir. Please return the favor one day when I am in need of a hug." Which, being a girl was at least for one week straight every month. She laughed again at the awkwardness that was Ev. "Yes..I consider you my friend anyway. So I guess you just need to deal with that." She stuck her tongue out at him.
